Limo Parking at Chapels

Owners of two wedding chapels in Reno fear that a change in parking rules downtown could prevent the use of their wedding limousines. Antique Angels Chapel owner Beverley Van Düsseldorf and Patricia Simpson, owner of the Arch of Reno Chapel, said they will have no place to park their limousines for wedding parties.
Simpson said the project to beautify Virginia Street took away a loading space she had used, claiming that unloading couples, dressed in their wedding gowns and tuxedos in an alley next to overflowing garbage dumpster does not make for a pretty wedding picture. While Van Düsseldorf said her business can't use a loading zone, metered parking, the sidewalk or even the alley.
The action by the council was prompted by a staff report which included a long list of downtown business owners using loading zones for personal cars and other people who parked in loading zones for long periods, making it difficult for some deliveries to be made.
The Reno City Council has instructed its staff to continue working with two wedding chapel owners and to review the parking meter bag policy – which allows businesses free parking time - and evaluate the need for more loading zones.
However, no matter how diligent your chauffer is, you can’t park in a non existent space. It seems that in this case little or no consideration has been given to the needs of the businesses regarding limousine access. That is, the limos that the chapel uses need their own parking spaces to make sure that the customers do not have to walk too far to get to their destination.
